Tips for trips in Central Asia

Central Asia is a vast region stretching from the Caspian sea in the west to China in the east and from Kazakh steppes in the north to Afghanistan in the south. 5 countries comprise the region: Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Their common ending “stan” means “land” in Persian.

Diversity of landscapes, peoples and nature together with long and exiting history offer great opportunities for various kinds of travel, from active trips and trekking (see Fann mountains trek) to cultural and historical tours like Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran.

On one hand each of these countries offers quite a lot to see and to do. The whole trip may be devoted to one country, or example such as Outstanding Uzbekistan. But on the other hand a combination of several countries in one tour is quite an attractive option. Sometimes, depending on the preferences it is worth including neighboring Iran or China. For those who are keen on seeing all the 5 countries at a glance we offer All Central Asia trip.

As the Great Silk Road crossing the whole Central Asia goes to the Caucasus too, a trip to the 3 Caucasian countries could be a nice continuation as well as a separate journey.

When arriving in the region it is convenient to use one of the international airports in Tashkent, Almaty or Ashgabat. Good possibilities for various flight connections enable to fly in and out from different countries.

Each of the countries in Central Asia has its own peculiarities. Their history goes back to ancient times and was influenced by many well-known personalities such as Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Timur. After the collapse of Soviet Union over 20 year ago all of these states gained independence and their present life is probably as interesting as their history.
