Kyzyl - The Center Of Asia
Kyzyl is the capital of the Tuva republic. It is situated in the deep valley in the place where two rivers join together to form a larger source and finally to form Enisei - one of the greatest Russian rivers. The city is famous not only as the capital, but also because it is situated in the geographical center of Asia. In 1964 the monument was made on the bank of the river proclaiming the place to be the center of Asia. The climate here is strongly continental and the precipitation is very small as the place is very far from any large water source. The city is very young. It was founded in 1914. Bu al the buildings were wooden up to the 1928 when the first stone building was erected. Nowadays it is a rather big industrial city, the cultural and scientific center of Tuva. There are several big plants, a branch of Siberian department of Russian Academy of Sciences, Music and Drama theatre, Philharmonic hall and the local museum with the collection of ancient and contemporary art of Tuva. Not far from Kyzyl, on the opposite bank of the river there are ancient stone carvings and drawings.
