Detailed Itinerary

The following itinerary is a working guide only and is a subject to variations due to local conditions, weather and governmental restrictions.

Day 1. Drive from Saint – Petersburg to Starya Ladoga on the bank of Volkhov river (120 km away from St. Petersburg). Tour of the oldest town of Russia, first mentioned in 862 AD. We will visit Nikolsky and Uspensky monastery. Starya Ladoga is a starting point of biking. For the first day we will cover 30 km and stay near Meleksa village on the of Sias river. Night in a camp.

Day 2. 60 km biking to Tikhvin, town with great history, dated by 14 century. Tikhvin had preserved all the ensembles of the monasteries. Night at the hotel in Tikhvin.

Day 3. Tour of Tikhvin, visiting Bogorodizky men’s monastery, Vvedensky women’s monastery and house-museum of famous Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov. Continue on our way to the Ust-Kapsha village (on the river Kapsha). 35 km of biking. Night in a camp.

Day 4. Continue on our way to the big lake Bolshoe–Konez–Sarskoe passing several villages. The road is good ground without any traffic. Total distance is 55 km. Night in a camp near the lake.

Day 5. Our aim is to get to Tervenichi village mentioned in the 12 century. Here was the first settlements of Vepps people lived. We’ll visit Pokrovo-Tervenichesky women’s monastery. It had been reconstructed in 1997 and has a fantastic views. We will leave Tervenichi for Savozero, passing through the big village Alexovschina. 45 km of biking. Banya. Night at the lodge.

Day 6. Continue on our way to Lodeinoe Pole town. We will visit one of the biggest monastery of the Russian North – Aleksandro-Svirsky monastery. Total distance is 45 km. Night at the lodge.

Day 7. We will leave Lodeinoe Pole for Lugovskoe lake. It is the most picturesque place of the region. 25 km of biking. The rest of the day on shore of the lake. Night in a camp.

Day 8. Continue on our way to the country estate of the famous Russian artist – Polenov on the Oyat river. You will be able to see some of his works and enjoy scenery around. After we will pass through some small lovely villages and stop on the bank of Oyat river in a quiet place. Total distance is 30 km. Night in a camp.

Day 9. In the morning we will take rubber boats and make a 7-8 km rafting down the Oyat river. Everybody who is keen on fishing will be able to catch some. Night in a camp on the bank of Oyat river.

Day 10. Drive back to St.Petersburg passing by Vvedeno-Oyatsky monastery.
