SKI LIFT AREA

There are two main lift systems: the higher is located on the lower slopes of Elbrus which, being set slightly away from the main Caucasus ridge, provides skiing with magnificent panoramas. The other region is located on Cheget, a spur leading off the main ridge.

The Elbrus cable car and chairlift system rises from 2200m to 3800m. The last 300m being served by a chairlift. There are 1 drag lift, 2 cable ways (with cabins for 20-25 persons) and a chair lift on the slopes. The longest ski peast approx 6,5km.
From the top of the chairlift (Garabashi) it is possible to be towed by a ratrack up to a height of 4200m. The 2000m descent starts on a relatively gentle angled glacier. The main section involves steeper snowfields and snow bowls amongst rocky outcrops, the final 500m is down steep, sparsely wooded slopes. Despite the great altitudes reached, the south-facing aspect of the slopes makes for very pleasant conditions.

The chairlift system serving Cheget Mountain (2000m - 3200m) provides fine, steep skiing ranging from NE to SE in aspect. There are 3 chair lifts (one two sits) and 1 drag lift; longest ski peast 2900 m. The first 600m involve steep open slopes; the lower slopes are extensively forested and resemble some of the skiing available in Colorado. Two of the more impressive mountains of the Caucasus overlook the Cheget ski areas.
