Trip Grades

While choosing the trip please remember that it is very necessary to concern the grade of the trek which is shown on the top of the page. A brief explanation of the grade system we use is given below.

Grade A
These trips can be enjoyed by anyone who leads a reasonably active life. The trek itself (the walking part of the itinerary) is about 8 days. There might also be non trekking activities like traveling over rough terrain by vehicle which may be rather demanding.

Grade B

The trips graded B generally involve longer walking. Some previous hill walking experience is desirable. In general, the altitude attained on these treks is 3800m and they should be described as moderate.

Grade B/C

The day stages on these treks are mostly graded B, although some of the sections are slightly tougher and closer to grade C. See FANN MOUNTAINS,

Grade C

Applies to longer treks, and generally takes place at altitude. Also they will usually involve crossing high passes. See TREKKING IN GEORGIA, SAYAN MOUNTAINS, ALTAI MOUNTAINS, TIEN SHAN.

Grade D

You need to be fit for these treks, and be very familiar with mountain walking, and possess a fair degree of stamina. We include treks which involve river, moraine, glacier and snow crossings in this category. See PEAK LENIN, MOUNT ELBRUS, MOUNT KAZBEK, MOUNT MONGUN-TAIGA.

Grade E

Technical Mountaineering. See VIRGIN SUMMITS.
